Original reliquary in the shape of a Tau cross. The entire piece is adorned with artistic indentations. To the first Christians, the letter TAU, as the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, reminded them of the fulfillment of revelation, redemption, and the parousia. Saint Francis was an indefatigable promoter of the cult of the sign and the Tau cross. It was the Tau sign he spoke of in his speeches and used to sign his letters. TAU reminds us of the great Christian truth that our lives are redeemed by Christ's love for humanity.
